Burrows and Badgers: Owl Guard and Mouse Rogue

Image
Back again with another quick Burrows and Badgers update.  I've finished off the last of my 'Knightly' warband- the Owl Guard who accompanies the Corgi Knight who leads the group. The Owl was very simple to paint- mostly just Leadbelcher with a Nuln Oil wash, and any feathers/skin poking through painted with Rakarth Flesh- so it looks something like a Barn Owl. I also painted up another creature for the other warband I'm painting- which follows a more Woodland/Riverbank animal theme. I really like this Duncan Louca sculpt- she's a very simple model, but carries a lot of character with the determined look that's conveyed in the face. I actually painted the fur very similarly to the Corgi Knight (XV-88 + Seraphim Sepia), and then mixed the XV-88 with some light fleshtone for the skin, before highlighting with just the fleshtone. Armed with two fangs (presumably from a larger animal she had found somewhere?), she's not likely to be very powerful in-game- but ...

Burrows and Badgers: Landsknecht Badger and Cleric Beagle

Image
Quick update today on my Burrows and Badgers painting. I've finished 2 more for my 'Knightly' warband- an elite group led by a Corgi Knight, who accompany him on his hunting expeditions- or when necessary, to fight another warband in the lands of Northumbrya. The Badger was a fun sculpt I got 3D printed (like some of the others I've done previously, designed by Duncan Louca)- in the style of a Landsknecht. I was fairly happy with the result- but I'm not sure if the Red-Yellow worked quite as well as I wanted. The yellow in the recesses of the clothing doesn't stand out fantastically- but well enough that I didn't repaint the whole model. The next miniature is the Second in my warband- the back up leader to my Corgi Knight, the Beagle Cleric. I was happy with the red cloak on this one- but I think I chose too light a yellow for the tabard. The Seraphim Sepia ended up being just a little too dark, but the effect isn't awful. I tried out a gold piece of a...

Painting an Otter and Corgi Knight for Burrows and Badgers

Image
I'm back with more Burrows and Badgers today- as I have been painting up my leaders for the 2 warbands I am working on. They're quite different, but both ended up being great fun to paint. The Otter is leading the warband which my  Platypus and Frog  are in- and so I wanted to keep the blue that is tying this group together going. I decided not to paint any of the Otters clothes blue though- he's in quite simple clothing and armour, and to give a blue shirt or trousers felt a bit flamboyant for this miniature- I have in mind more of a Robin Hood style outlaw for his character, hiding out in the woods and making do with what he has. The obvious choice was to therefore paint his fish in the blue which I used before hand (you will note though reader, that whilst this may look like a particularly large fish- it is in fact a deadly two handed weapon... being hit by a fish must surely hurt?) Painting was nice and straightforward: Fish: Macragge Blue, Asurmen Blue wash (O...

Painting a Frog and Platypus for Badgers and Burrows

Image
I've been painting up some more miniatures for Burrows and Badgers- I can't get enough of them at the moment. Coming off the back of painting up all those Orcs for Middle Earth SBG, it's so refreshing to:  A) paint something much more colourful and different  and B) paint individual characters that I can spend a bit of time on, and put some care into the painting so they're exactly how I want them. (I just don't have the patience to do this on 25+ Orcs...) The beauty of Burrows and Badgers is all your miniatures are characters- because you only need 4-6 to create a warband, so I'm taking my time with each one. Starting with my Platypus then This is a 3D printed miniature, sculpted by Cobramode (who from what I can tell really likes Platypuses? There are definitely a lot of different sculpts!) and the 3D printed for me by a store on Etsy called Terrafig. They were able to give me a custom scaling to get the Platypus in scale with B&B. The only additional th...

Making a Burrows and Badgers Warband out of Warhammer

Image
I've recently got into the skirmish game, Burrows and Badgers, which caught my eye when I stumbled upon it on Youtube. I must admit- this might be a bit of a dream game for me. Growing up, I absolutely loved reading books such as the Redwall series, the Winds in the Willows and watching Disney's Robin Hood- so I have always had a bit of a soft spot for the sub-genre of Fantasy where animals take on the role of humans. I even have Bojack Horseman as one of my favourite TV shows of recent years, so it's safe to say I enjoy the whimsy of this sort of thing. Finding a game, which has the feel of essentially being Redwall, is therefore something I'm really looking forward to trying, but probably more looking forward to painting! With all that said, I decided to get started by grabbing a few Skaven miniatures to mess around with. I'm intending to get much more than just this done- but I quite like to start projects with something reasonably quick and easy, just to make ...
