Middle-Earth Kitbashing: Aragorn with Pony

Image
I'm back after my break with my latest work for Middle-Earth SBG. What inspired this Aragorn model is a list I'm currently building for a Doubles Tournament at the start of next year, which I'm taking part in with friend of the Blog OT (you can hear from OT each week on our podcast,  The Hobby Breakfast Show ). We're theming our army around the flight of the Hobbits and Strider from The Nine- 400 points each, with my Fellowship Army having the Hobbits, Strider, Bill the Pony and Arwen (OT will be bringing Elrond and some Rivendell Knights). As part of this list, I wanted to give Aragorn a little more bite than his foot-version, and with Anduril yet to be re-forged, a horse was the only option. I decided that it would be more in keeping to have Aragorn leading a pony for this list though- and so I went on the hunt for a 3D printed pony in the right scale. Fortunately, I found one easily, sculpted by 'The Printing Goes Ever On' and printed for me by the Etsy sel...

Making a Burrows and Badgers Warband out of Warhammer

Image
I've recently got into the skirmish game, Burrows and Badgers, which caught my eye when I stumbled upon it on Youtube. I must admit- this might be a bit of a dream game for me. Growing up, I absolutely loved reading books such as the Redwall series, the Winds in the Willows and watching Disney's Robin Hood- so I have always had a bit of a soft spot for the sub-genre of Fantasy where animals take on the role of humans. I even have Bojack Horseman as one of my favourite TV shows of recent years, so it's safe to say I enjoy the whimsy of this sort of thing. Finding a game, which has the feel of essentially being Redwall, is therefore something I'm really looking forward to trying, but probably more looking forward to painting! With all that said, I decided to get started by grabbing a few Skaven miniatures to mess around with. I'm intending to get much more than just this done- but I quite like to start projects with something reasonably quick and easy, just to make ...

Creating Middle Earth SBG Crebain out of AoS Miniatures

Image
For my Isengard army that I'm currently building, I'm going to be including some Crebain- flocks of crows which Saruman uses as his spies. The first point of call would of course be the official models made by Games Workshop. However, the official models are Forge World- and a little on the pricey side... £27.50 for 2 Crebain flocks... I looked at reviews, which do suggest these are good models- but as I needed 3, I didn't feel I could justify £55 for 2 packs- especially as the rest of the army didn't cost much more than this...  I therefore had a look for some alternatives to make Crebain with- although there weren't a massive amount of crow models out there. I found some individual crow miniatures, but would have had to completely construct a base for them. This was perhaps a bit too much effort for what aren't something that I want to become a time sink. In the end, I circled back to Games Workshop, for some other miniatures they make for Age of Sigmar. The...

Kitbashing in 6mm- Eldar Scorpion Tank

Image
As an addition to my Epic Eldar force, I wanted to include a Super-Heavy tank, but I wasn't massively keen on paying £20 for a 2nd hand, and metal, miniature. Looking through my bits-box, I came up with the solution- the Eldar Guardian kit for 40k already comes with a mini-tank, the support weapon. With a few tweaks to the 'turret,' it already looks like an Eldar tank of sorts. The parts used The 'turret' is the underslung weapon from an Dark Eldar Venom The kitbash was very simple from here. The front thruster(?) was cut away to form the cockpit. The base for the turret was clipped away to provide a flat surface for the weapon. From there, a bit of milliput helped smooth over the gaps, connect the 'cockpit' to the main body of the tank and create a viewpoint for the gun operator. Before the basecoat goes on The platform for the support weapon scales quite well with the Falcons And that was that, from there the painting followed the same scheme as the Falc...
