Knights of Khorne- Epic 40k (3rd Edition) Force

The defiled Imperial Knights, dedicated to the Chaos god Khorne.

Here are the mighty Knights of Khorne, my first painted miniatures of 2022- and my newest 600pt force for my Epic 40k 3rd Edition Skirmish forces project.

These were fantastic miniatures to paint, and really GW have done a fantastic job recreating the larger 28mm Knights down into the smaller scale- without losing too much detail on the way. With the newer miniatures, and the rerelease of Knights back in 2014, there was a certain level of upscaling both in size and power. When you now compare these knights with the Epic 40k miniatures, you can see that rescaling to make the knights closer to what might be described as 'true-scale.'

Compared with an Ork Stompa, the Knight towers over it- this small Stompa in the Epic range is perhaps more like a modern Gorkanaut/Morkanaut?

As a result of this impressive size, the rules for Knights don't feel quite right- they would be more in line with a Leman Russ Battle tank than any sort of Super-Heavy Titan- and given their power in modern 40k, this would seem odd. At 600 points, this would have meant a force of around 10-20 knights- which if compared with 600 points of Space Marines (see my force here: Black Templars) would seem far too powerful.

As a result of this, I have looked through the rules to find something more in line with a Baneblade- my reasoning being that if a Knight in Epic was similar in power to a Leman Russ, and in Modern 40k a Knight is more similar to a Baneblade, this would be the easiest way to power up the Knights.

What I decided on was to use the rules for Warhound Titans (200 points each) for the Knights, giving them Super-Heavy status, and making them more in line with the current power-level Knights have been given. This might cause issues down the road if I ever get a Warhound, but I don't currently intend to build more powerful Titans...

A Warhound in Epic 40k 3rd Edition.
Taking a look at these rules, each Knight will be a fearsome prospect to face- protected by Void Shields and presenting brutal Firepower and Assault, they will be able to destroy multiple units each turn- but will find themselves outnumbered and without control of the Battlefield- though I'm sure the worshippers of Khorne won't be particularly concerned by this!

Thanks for reading- I'm looking forward to getting these on the table in the not too distant future! I will leave you with a couple more photos of each Knight.

The Leader of the Knights of Khorne- he's clearly had a run-in with a Tyranid Bio-Titan at some point in the past.

Armed with a Gauntlet and Chainsword- this Knight is all about close combat- just as Khorne would want.

The chains are from the Dark Eldar Viper kit. The spikes I used are blades from the Dark Eldar kits, or spears which were sharpened using a knife.
