Middle-Earth Kitbashing: Aragorn with Pony

Image
I'm back after my break with my latest work for Middle-Earth SBG. What inspired this Aragorn model is a list I'm currently building for a Doubles Tournament at the start of next year, which I'm taking part in with friend of the Blog OT (you can hear from OT each week on our podcast,  The Hobby Breakfast Show ). We're theming our army around the flight of the Hobbits and Strider from The Nine- 400 points each, with my Fellowship Army having the Hobbits, Strider, Bill the Pony and Arwen (OT will be bringing Elrond and some Rivendell Knights). As part of this list, I wanted to give Aragorn a little more bite than his foot-version, and with Anduril yet to be re-forged, a horse was the only option. I decided that it would be more in keeping to have Aragorn leading a pony for this list though- and so I went on the hunt for a 3D printed pony in the right scale. Fortunately, I found one easily, sculpted by 'The Printing Goes Ever On' and printed for me by the Etsy sel

Burrows and Badgers: Owl Guard and Mouse Rogue

Back again with another quick Burrows and Badgers update.  I've finished off the last of my 'Knightly' warband- the Owl Guard who accompanies the Corgi Knight who leads the group. The Owl was very simple to paint- mostly just Leadbelcher with a Nuln Oil wash, and any feathers/skin poking through painted with Rakarth Flesh- so it looks something like a Barn Owl. I also painted up another creature for the other warband I'm painting- which follows a more Woodland/Riverbank animal theme. I really like this Duncan Louca sculpt- she's a very simple model, but carries a lot of character with the determined look that's conveyed in the face. I actually painted the fur very similarly to the Corgi Knight (XV-88 + Seraphim Sepia), and then mixed the XV-88 with some light fleshtone for the skin, before highlighting with just the fleshtone. Armed with two fangs (presumably from a larger animal she had found somewhere?), she's not likely to be very powerful in-game- but

Burrows and Badgers: Landsknecht Badger and Cleric Beagle

Quick update today on my Burrows and Badgers painting. I've finished 2 more for my 'Knightly' warband- an elite group led by a Corgi Knight, who accompany him on his hunting expeditions- or when necessary, to fight another warband in the lands of Northumbrya. The Badger was a fun sculpt I got 3D printed (like some of the others I've done previously, designed by Duncan Louca)- in the style of a Landsknecht. I was fairly happy with the result- but I'm not sure if the Red-Yellow worked quite as well as I wanted. The yellow in the recesses of the clothing doesn't stand out fantastically- but well enough that I didn't repaint the whole model. The next miniature is the Second in my warband- the back up leader to my Corgi Knight, the Beagle Cleric. I was happy with the red cloak on this one- but I think I chose too light a yellow for the tabard. The Seraphim Sepia ended up being just a little too dark, but the effect isn't awful. I tried out a gold piece of a
