Hobby Update- 2021

Image
A quick Hobby Update, or rather an update to say that not much hobby is happening... I'm currently in the process of moving house, and so, I packed my miniatures and paint away to be ready for the move. This means that I won't now be able to do much hobby until, realistically, the New Year. As is always the case, as soon as I packed away my projects, I've been unable to stop thinking about wanting to do some hobby (an unfortunate side effect given that it is often difficult to motivate myself when I have my paint station ready to go!). I thought this would be a good opportunity for myself to look back over 2021, take stock of my completed hobby projects, and look at what I have still to complete. (Note: the photos are not great- as they were taken during packing). Miniatures completed in 2021: Tzeentch Chaos Warcry warband - At the beginning of the year, I decided to make a Warcry warband- mostly for fun, but also for the possibility of playing a game or two of Warcry if

Aeronautica Imperialis: Grot Bommer Review

Image
The Grot Bommer Whilst roaming on ebay recently, I found a box of Grot Bommers for the game Aeronautica Imperialis being sold for £17- a steal compared to the £32.50 they are sold for from Games Workshop. I'd had a soft spot for this model since it was launched, and had been tempted to start Aeronautica in order to build a small Air Waaagh! The full price tag though had put me off- slightly too high for 2 models I thought, but at £17, and needing some Ork planes for my Epic force, my temptation got the better of me, and here we are now. I thought I would give a short review of the Bommers, and my experience in building them here on my blog- where they will eventually make their way back when I get time to paint them up for the Orks. For my review, I've decided to score the kit on the following: Value, Quality, Build and Looks, each getting a score out of 5. I feel that breaking this down will help make my thoughts clearer on a kit, rather than a single score encompassing all of

Black Templars Epic 40k (3rd Edition) Force

Image
I've been building up my Epic Black Templar force, The Anatolikan Crusade, for the last two months, and have now got them to the point where I feel like they're 'Crusade' strength. The Anatolikan Crusade The force now numbers a mighty 60 Black Templar Initiates, 4 Rhinos, 2 Land Raiders, 3 Predators and 2 Vindicators- a huge force for 40k, but in Epic terms, a starter army. I had initially intended to use the rules for Epic Armageddon, the 'Current' edition- which although very much unsupported by Games Workshop, very much is still supported by the Community. The earlier 'Space Marine' and 'Adeptus Titanicus' games in the First and Second edition seemed a little more 'clunky' from what I read, and I was after something a little more abstract. In my reading, however, I came across the 3rd Edition of Epic, known as Epic 40k. Released back in 1997 (way before I joined the Hobby in 2010), from what I've read online, it was not very popul

The Anatolikon Crusade

The Anatolikon Crusade *This is the background lore I have created for my Epic 40k armies- just as a bit of fun. I like giving my forces some background, and for this project, I have decided to theme all of my Epic 40k armies around a conflict on the planet Vexar Prime.* In the final stages of 999.M41, Marshal Osseus of the Black Templars Chapter declared a new Crusade in the Eastern Fringe of the Ultima Sector to deal with the threat of an Ork infestation in the area. Marshal Osseus' Strike Cruiser ' Sigismund's Challenge ' tracked the Ork menace to the Caljin System, abandoned by the Imperium in the wake of the destruction by the Tyranid Hive Fleet designated Kraken. The dead worlds had become a base for the Ork Warboss Krunchgrut to launch raids on the neighbouring systems, and dock to his ragtag fleet of Ork vessels. Marshal Osseus launched his attack, and Sigismund's Challenge tore through the ramshackle Ork vessels, however in the chaos of the destruction,
