Blood Bowl Ball Squares

'Blood Bowl Ball Squares' Hobby Guide

A Blood Bowl Ball Square (a bit of a mouthful to say!)

This idea was inspired by the 'ball rings' that I've seen online- simplifying Blood Bowl games by removing the small fiddly pieces of plastic on the Games Workshop sprues with, very clear for gameplay, rings your players' bases fit into.

However, I quite liked the look of the balls on the Blood Bowl sprues- they're characterful, and if you want to use the optional rules for balls, it is a lot more thematic to actually use the miniature for that exact ball. So- I set about creating my own ball-alternative.*

What you'll need:

  • Plasticard (I went for 0.8mm thick)
  • Ruler and Pencil
  • Sharp Hobby Knife
  • Glue
  • Blood Bowl Balls
  • Paint and Basing materials of your preference
The first step was to cut the plasticard to shape- Blood Bowl pitches after 2016 have 34x34mm squares, so using a ruler and pencil, measure out the plasticard sheet, and then cut the straight lines (a ruler can help with this, I find slowly scoring along a pre-drawn pencil line easier).

Once cut, you'll find that when you place a 32mm round base on, you'll have plenty of room in the corner to stick the Ball to.

Remove the pegs from the Balls, glue to the corner, and just make sure to leave room for your model to sit on top!
5 Balls ready for priming!

After this, it's just a case of basing and priming the bases- either to match your team or the pitch. I aimed to try and copy the pitch in the 2020 starter set.

And here are the five finished balls on their squares ready for a game of Blood Bowl!

Thanks for reading- and hopefully you liked the idea.

I'll leave with some close ups- and the paints used on each ball if you're interested (all paints are Citadel).
